How do I turn my Green idea into reality?

So many good intentions….. but so few turn into real change.

Pulling together a green business from a strong conviction is not easy. It takes time, money, and a good Team to win through.

The first step is to gather all the information that you can – about the market, the current suppliers/providers, the companies and people that can provide you with the technology or licence to operate, and of course about grants and funding.

In the UK, there are plenty of organisations that can get you started;

  • The Carbon Trust (www.carbontrust.co.uk) offers two schemes. The Applied Research Programme provides grants up to £500,000 which has to be matched by funding from yourself. There is also the business incubation scheme offering professional advice up to £70,000.
  • Regional grants – varies from region to region – check on your local options at websites like www.regensw.co.uk and www.envirolinknorthwest.co.uk/Envirolink/Biomass-sig.nsf
  • Department of Energy and Climate Change offer grants and help on www.decc.gov.uk
  • Corporations like Shell award funding for low-carbon businesses – see www.shellspringboard.org
  • GBI (formerly known as Selective Finance for Investment in England or SFIE grants) makes discretionary grants available from Government (the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills - BIS) to support businesses with investment projects which will increase productivity, skills and employment in deprived areas in England. See www.emda.org.uk/gbi/minisite
  • There are lots of links to other grants and support funding throughout the UK on www.therenewableenergycentre.co.uk/grants/#anchor5a

There is a host of information and helpful advice out there for you – all supporting you on the road to turning your idea into reality.
