Grants available to support Green technology

Available through DEFRA, Farmers, foresters and biomass producers can apply for up to £200,000 each under a new round of grants. The establishment of the domestic Environmental Transformation Fund, jointly funded by Defra and the Department for Business, Enterprise & Regulatory Reform, was announced on 9 October 2007 by Hilary Benn and John Hutton along with £2 billion of credits for local authorities to attract private investment in sustainable waste and recycling facilities. Funding through the waste Private Finance Initiative will rise from £280 million in 2007-08 to £700 million in 2010-11

Under the Environmental Transformation Fund (ETF), the Carbon Trust has received £47.4 million to bring forward new energy technologies such as offshore wind, third-generation photovoltaic power, marine energy and biomass heating. This funding is being used to increase the Carbon Trust’s energy-saving loans scheme for small and medium sized enterprises by a further £12 million to £62 million since 2003.

GBI (formerly known as Selective Finance for Investment in England or SFIE grants) makes discretionary grants available from Government (the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills - BIS) to support businesses with investment projects which will increase productivity, skills and employment in deprived areas in England.
